5 SMCs no more including Bukit Batok & MacPherson, 6 new SMCs created including Jurong Central: EBRC report

The Electoral Boundaries Review Committee report is out, and here's what it looks like on the Single Member Constituency (SMC) front.

Five SMCs have been removed, while six new ones have been created. This will increase the total number of SMCs by one, from 14 to 15.

Singaporean voters will see the introduction of the following new SMCs:

• Bukit Gombak
• Jalan Kayu
• Jurong Central
• Queenstown
• Sembawang West
• Tampines Changkat

The following SMCs have been removed:

• Bukit Batok
• Hong Kah North
• MacPherson
• Punggol West
• Yuhua

SMC developments

Jurong Central ward is currently represented by Member of Parliament Xie Yao Quan of the PAP, as part of Jurong Group Representation Constituency (GRC).

Xie made his debut in the 2020 general election, coming in as a replacement for withdrawn candidate Ivan Lim.

He was introduced to the public by then-anchor minister Tharman Shanmugaratnam, who is currently the President of Singapore.

Meanwhile, Punggol West SMC will be no more.

It is currently held by Sun Xueling, the Minister of State for Home Affairs. In 2020, she defeated Tan Chen Chen of the Workers' Party to win her seat.
