PAP MPs weigh in on changes to electoral boundaries, promise continued support for residents
The party said it will make adjustments for the upcoming GE.
With recent changes to electoral boundaries, the People's Action Party's (PAP) branches and activists will make the necessary adjustments to prepare for the upcoming general election (GE).
This was shared in the party statement's on Mar. 11 after the Singapore government accepted the recommendations in the Electoral Boundaries Review Committee’s (EBRC) report.
PAP said it will continue to focus on serving all Singaporeans, including listening to their feedback, understanding their needs and acting on their behalf to improve communities.
The party added that residents can continue to seek assistance from their existing PAP branches.
The changes
Under the new boundaries, five Group Representative Constituencies (GRCs) have been introduced, namely Punggol, Pasir Ris-Changi, Marine Parade-Braddell Heights, Jurong East-Bukit Batok, and West Coast-Jurong West GRCs.
Five Single Member Constituencies (SMCs) were removed, including Bukit Batok, Hong Kah North, and MacPherson SMCs.
Six new SMCs were created, including Bukit Gombak, Jalan Kayu, and Jurong Central SMCs.
The EBRC report stated that West Coast, Jurong and Pasir Ris-Punggol GRCs were dissolved due to population growth leading to an increase in the number of electors.

We welcome new residents from Changi: Teo Chee Hean
The anchor minister of Pasir Ris-Punggol GRC, Senior Minister Teo Chee Hean, commented on the dissolution of the GRC in a video shared to Facebook on Mar. 11.
Addressing residents, Teo said that towns in Punggol and Pasir Ris have grown, resulting in the redrawing of electoral boundaries.
Based on the new boundaries, the Punggol estates in the now-former Pasir Ris-Punggol GRC will be merged with Punggol West SMC, to form the new four-MP Punggol GRC.
The remaining polling districts will be merged with the adjacent polling districts of Loyang and Flora estates from East Coast GRC, to form the new four-MP Pasir Ris-Changi GRC.
Teo welcomed new residents from Changi to the GRC and said his team will make sure all residents are well care for.
"Our team is committed to work with all our residents in Pasir Ris, Punggol, and Changi, to build a better home and future for all of us," Teo said.
Commitment remains "unwavering": Grace Fu
Another Member of Parliament (MP) to comment on the changes was Yuhua SMC MP Grace Fu.
Yuhua SMC, where Fu has won three consecutive elections since 2011, will be part of the new Jurong East-Bukit Batok GRC.
Part of Yuhua SMC will also be carved out to join Jurong Central SMC.
Fu assured her residents in a Mar. 11 Facebook post that her commitment to them remains "unwavering".
"Until the general election is over, I will continue to watch over your interest and look after your needs in every way I can, to the best of my ability," Fu wrote.
Fu, who has served as the Minister for Sustainability and the Environment since 2020, could be the new anchor minister of the upcoming Jurong East-Bukit Batok GRC.
In her post, Fu said she will continue her engagements with residents in the days ahead.
Changes due to increase in electors: PM Wong
Prime Minister Lawrence Wong also commented on the changes in a Facebook post, saying that the EBRC had recommended adding one more GRC and one SMC because of an increase in electors.
This brings the number of GRCs in Singapore to 18 and the number of SMCs to 15.
The number of elected MPs will increase by four, to a total of 97, said PM Wong.
PM Wong added that the next milestone will be to update and certify the registers of electors, before elections are called.
