'Complete fake news': Razer CEO Min-Liang Tan shuts down online rumour that he went on political walkabout

On Mar. 11, a Reddit user claimed that Razer's chief executive officer (CEO) Min-Liang Tan visited their home alongside a Member of Parliament (MP).

In the original post, which had become inaccessible as of 7pm, the user did not share exactly where and when the alleged visit took place.

However, in the comments section of the post, the user told a commenter that their home was located in Holland-Bukit Timah Group Representation Constituency (GRC).

The post was not accompanied by any photos. Neither did it contain details about the MP in question nor the party they belonged to.

However, the Reddit user made reference to the People's Action Party (PAP) twice.

Later in the day, at around 6:20pm, Tan put up a post on Facebook, shutting down "rumours about [him] being on a political walkabout".

"That's complete fake news because I haven't been on any walkabouts, political or otherwise."

Tan's credentials

Although several commenters found the Reddit user's post to be implausible, some of them contended that it was possible for Tan to join politics one day, given his credentials.

Born in 1977, Tan studied law at the National University of Singapore (NUS) before serving as an advocate and solicitor at Singapore's Supreme Court, reported CNBC.

In 2005, he co-founded Razor with Robert Krakoff; he has been serving as its CEO since 2006.

In 2015, he was appointed as a board member of the Intellectual Property Office of Singapore (IPOS), a statutory board under the Ministry of Law (MinLaw).

Following Razer's listing on Hong Kong Stock Exchange in 2017, Tan became a billionaire at the age of 39, according to Forbes.
