M’sian man, 48, helps driver whose car entered ditch, gets hit by speeding car, dies

The victim leaves behind three children aged seven, nine, and 11.

A Malaysian man, who stopped his vehicle to help another driver, ended up getting hit by a car and killed.

The tragic turn of events on Feb. 16 at around 5pm occurred in Kuantan, Malaysia.

Stopped to assist fellow motorist

The victim was identified as 48-year-old Malaysian Tan Wing Foo, who was a construction contractor.

He had stopped to assist a driver whose car had veered into a ditch.

Local police confirmed that the incident took place at 69.4km mark of of the Karak Highway, notorious for its accident-prone roads.

Tan, who is a divorcee, leaves behind three children aged seven, nine, and 11.

What happened

According to Sin Chew Daily, Tan was driving a medium-sized lorry from Kuantan to Kuala Lumpur for work when he noticed a car that had purportedly ended up in a ditch on the Karak Highway after it failed to overtake properly.

Tan stopped his vehicle and rushed to help the stranded driver along with two other motorists.

Tan's brother told Sin Chew Daily that Tan was waiting by the road for emergency services with the victim when a speeding car lost control and crashed into group.

In a separate interview with China Press, Tan’s brother added that one of them by the road was able to dodge the vehicle careening towards them, while another man got hit and was seriously injured.

The local police said a total of four victims were transported to the hospital, but Tan had apparently already succumbed to his injuries shortly after being brought into the ambulance.
