Cathay Cineplexes closing West Mall outlet in Bukit Batok on Feb. 20

Cathay Cineplexes is closing its West Mall outlet on Feb. 20.

The cinema chain announced the closure in a Facebook post on Feb. 17.

It thanked patrons for their support and said they could continue to visit its outlets at JEM and Clementi 321.

The closure of its West Mall outlet means that Cathay Cineplexes now operates in five locations:

• Causeway Point,
• Downtown East,
• JEM,
• Century Square, and
• Clementi 321

Four cinema closures between 2022 and 2024

Prior to the closure of its West Mall outlet, Cathay Cineplexes saw four cinema closures between 2022 and 2024.

The Cathay Cineplex at The Cathay building in Dhoby Ghaut shut down in June 2022.

Subsequently, it closed its branches at Cineleisure Orchard, Parkway Parade, and AMK Hub between Jun. 30, 2023 and Jun. 30, 2024.

The cinema chain recently launched a voucher set consisting of 10 movie tickets and 10 sets of popcorn and water combos for just S$100, which is a promotion supposedly to save their screens.

The bulk purchase of tickets and food would have cost S$223 originally.
