Some 98 Bukit Timah Market and Food Centre stallholders will be moving to the Bukit Timah Interim Hawker Centre/ Market by the end of September 2024.

The interim site, located near the junction of Jalan Jurong Kechil and Jalan Seh Chuan, will begin operations on Oct. 1.

The hawkers' move came after the People's Association (PA) announced that the two-storey Bukit Timah hawker centre will be demolished in the second half of 2024, subject to changes, in a letter to Bukit Timah residents in December 2023.

This is to make way for the Bukit Timah Integrated Development (BTID), which will be developed on the site of the current food centre, the adjacent open-air car park, and the vacant land lying next to the Esso petrol station.

The building will connect Beauty World MRT station with several community amenities, including "an expanded Bukit Timah Community Club", an "enhanced" Bukit Timah food centre and market, and Pei Hwa Presbyterian Primary School's new indoor sports hall.

The integrated development is slated to be completed approximately in the second half of 2029.

At the photo-taking session, Member of Parliament (MP) for Holland-Bukit Timah Group Representation Constituency (GRC) Sim Ann also announced that the Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA) had agreed to expand the car park next to the interim site in 2025.

This is to "address the hawker's concerns about parking availability for their customers", wrote Sim, who is also the Senior Minister of State at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ministry of National Development, in a Sep. 15 Facebook post.
