Edge restaurant at Pan Pacific Hotel resumed operations on Jun. 27, after it was suspended for more than a month due to customers falling ill from consuming food served there.

The suspension started on May 24 following reports of gastroenteritis and was lifted after the restaurant complied with food safety requirements, the Singapore Food Agency (SFA) and Ministry of Health (MOH) said in a joint statement.

A total of 39 people fell ill after consuming food prepared by the restaurant between May 1 and 23.

One of them was hospitalised and has since been discharged.

These revised figures were provided by SFA and MOH on Thursday.

A previous figure indicated that 16 diners fell ill between May 2 and 18.

The restaurant disposed of all ready-to-eat food, and thawed and perishable food items during the suspension period, SFA and MOH said.

The premises, including equipment and utensils, were cleaned and sanitised, while food preparation surfaces, tables and floors were disinfected.

Edge restaurant will be placed "under close surveillance to ensure that they adhere to food safety requirements", SFA said.

Food handlers re-attended and passed the Food Safety Course Level 1, and the food hygiene officers also re-attended and passed the WSQ Conduct Food & Beverage Hygiene Audit course.

The authorities said it will not hesitate to take enforcement action if food operators are found to be in violation of environmental public health regulations, and will consider the findings from investigations into the outbreak of gastroenteritis.

Those convicted may face a fine not exceeding S$2,000.

For a continuing offence, an additional fine of up to S$100 per day may apply after conviction.
