Singaporean actor Henry Thia, better known as Hui Ge, is being investigated by the police for appearing in a video that allegedly promotes a gambling website.

Mothership received a tip-off from a reader who said he saw Thia appearing in a YouTube video advertisement for an app which touts itself as the "ultimate live football app".

What the video showed

In the 56-second ad, Thia was using his phone when he came across the app.

Two spitting images of Thia then appeared and convinced him to download the app as it is "very safe".

The video appeared to have nothing to do with gambling for most of its duration, but during the last 10 seconds, when he finally showed the phone to the camera, one could see the words, “Get extra 10% on winnings!”

A quick search of the brand showed that it also operates an online casino.

The video in question was uploaded on the channel a month ago, and is still available at press time.

Police investigating

In response to Mothership's queries, the Singapore Police Force (SPF) confirmed they have received a police report, and that investigations are ongoing.

The Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA) told Mothership they are unable to comment on the matter as it is under police investigations.

Thia's agency alerted

Thia’s agency, King Kong Media Production, confirmed they have been alerted to the video, and that he is assisting the police in their investigations.

“As the investigation is ongoing, it is not appropriate for us to make any public statement,” the company’s spokesperson told Mothership.
