For the uninitiated, the Great Bay Fiesta is running from now till Jan. 1, 2023.
Located at Bayfront Event Space, the 20,000-square metre space comes with four main event segments:
- The Great Cirque des Cascades
- The Great World Carnival
- The Great Food Fiesta
- Ice Magic: The Great Fantasy on Ice
Bustling crowds
Although we visited the fiesta on a Friday afternoon, the place was still relatively packed with families and students.
Fortunately, we managed to try all of its attractions without much hassle.
We'd recommend visiting the fiesta during off-peak hours to avoid the crowds.
4. The Great World Carnival by Uncle Ringo
We had high hopes for this but alas.
Although the Uncle Ringo carnival was induced with nostalgic elements, we expected more from its rides and games.
With many pasar malams operating similar carnivals in the heartlands, it was understandable why we felt slightly underwhelmed by this one.
Furthermore, not all the rides, such as the pirate ship, were in operation when we visited.
According to the organisers, there were "shipment delays," and the ride will only "be up and running in the next couple of days."
While the Great World Carnival may be a good place for families with children, we'd argue that the fiesta has better options to offer.
Opening hours
- Monday to Friday: 4pm - 10:30pm
- Saturday, Sunday, Dec. 25, and Jan. 1: 1pm - 10:30pm
- Dec. 24 and Dec. 31: 1pm - 2am
3. The Great Food Fiesta
If you're a fellow foodie, you should consider checking out the Great Food Fiesta.
The food fest features a selection of specialty fare from both local and international brands, which includes grilled meats, seafood, and more.
One of the stalls we tried was the TikTok famous Indy Pancake Cartoon from Thailand.
As fans of Studio Ghibli and Spirited Away, we decided to order the "No Face" pancake.
Taking a bite, we were pleasantly surprised at how fluffy and delicate its texture was.
Our only complaint is that it could cut down on its use of butter, as it tasted a bit too rich.
Opening Hours
- 1pm – 10:30pm, daily.
2.The Great Cirque des Cascades
As someone who has never watched a circus act before, I had no idea what to expect from the Great Cirque des Cascades.
Needless to say, we were blown away by the various performing acts the circus had to offer throughout its 80-minute runtime.
In our opinion, the main highlight was definitely the high-speed floor acrobatics by the Panther Trope.
Their captivating performance kept us on the edge of our seats from start to finish.
Although there are far more renowned circuses out there, we felt the Great Cirque des Cascades is a good introduction to those who have never been to a circus before.
To note: If you have a huge phobia of clowns, don't watch this.
Showtimes
- Weekdays (no shows on Monday): 7pm
- Weekends, PH and Eve of PH: 2:30pm, 4pm, and 7pm
1. Ice Magic: The Great Fantasy on Ice
If you've been to Snow City before, this indoor winter playground at the fiesta has a similar vibe.
At -10 degrees, this is definitely the closest winter experience you can find in Singapore.
Not only does it have a plethora of activities to choose from, but it also has several spots to take cool pictures (no pun intended).
The main highlight was the 70m snow slope and 4.5m high figure-8 ice slide.
One of our colleagues who rode the ice slides described them as a "super fast and fun experience."
Although it's not the cheapest, we'd still strongly encourage you to pay a visit here if you're at the fiesta.
Tip: Jackets and boots will be provided though we would recommend bringing your own gloves and beanies to stay as warm and comfortable as possible.
