English speech to be delivered at 8pm
The National Day Rally was originally expected to be delivered on Aug. 22.
It was later announced that the rally would be rescheduled to Aug. 29, with the postponement of this year's National Day Parade to Aug. 21, after the end of Phase 2 (Heightened Alert).
According to the statement from the Prime Minister's Office, PM Lee will speak in Malay, Mandarin and English at the following times for the rally:
- 6:45pm to 7:15pm – Malay and Mandarin
- 8pm to 9:15pm – English
Earlier this year, PM Lee had said that the government will be announcing its decision on the incorporation of the tudung as part of Muslim nurses' uniform by National Day Rally.
He also said in May Day Rally that he will be providing updates on how the government will support low-income workers better through Progressive Wage Model (PWM) and other plans during the National Day Rally.
In a recent interview with the BBC, Finance Minister Lawrence Wong added that themes of fair hiring and human resource practices – looking at how Singaporean core and foreign professionals can be complementary forces – will be explored in the speech, according to the Straits Times.
