A new cafe-bakery, Nuage Patisserie and Boulangerie, has opened along Kampong Bahru Road, opposite the Singapore General Hospital.

The trio behind this cafe are Serene Tan, who helmed now-defunct online bakery Edibles Bake Shop, Carina Tan, who previously sold themed bakeboxes, and a third partner who was the head baker at a five-star hotel.

Currently in its soft opening phase, the cafe will officially open on July 31, 2021.

Nuage has garnered some attention online for their Instagrammable cakes and tarts .

Popcorn box and daisy desserts

How cute is this Strawberry Popcorn cake (S$9.80) that comes with its very own itty-bitty edible red striped popcorn box?

Made of vanilla sponge, strawberry cream and fresh strawberry compote, the reconstituted crumble base and chocolate coated popcorn lends a crunch to each bite.

Some may liken the Exotic Coco tart (S$9.80) to an egg, but it looks more like a daisy to us with its round petal-like edges.

The tart features an exotic confiture and coconut whipped ganache on top of a crunchy coconut sablé base.

Serene told Mothership that the bulk of Nuage's menu is brand new, but fans may recognise Carina's carrot cake that was previously available in her bakeboxes and Edibles Bake Shop's cupcakes.

They will be included this weekend.

Besides the Strawberry Popcorn cake, their other signature items include Pain au Chocolat (S$4.50), Burnt Cheese Danish, Brioche Feuilettée (S$6.50), Pistachio Strawberry Tart (S$9.20) and Brown Sugar Boba Swissroll (S$9.60).

In addition to the classic bread, viennoiserie (breakfast pastries), and cakes, Nuage also incorporates local infusions into their menu.

An example is the new Pandan Kaya Brioche that was introduced last weekend. The brioche bun with a Craquelin top, filled with homemade kaya and vanilla pastry cream, has been well-received, according to Serene.

They currently only cater to dine-in and takeaway orders.

However, Serene shared that the launch of a curated bakebox delivery option is in the works and will be available from next week onwards.

Cafe facade and interior

The white facade with gold trimmings matches the cafe's name, which means "cloud" in French.

With the current dine-in group cap of two, the cafe has a seating capacity of 12.

Dining-in for groups of five will be permitted from July 12 onwards, so there may be space to accommodate more.

One reason why Serene and Carina moved from expanded their online business to include a physical store is because it allows them to create a wider variety of products and reach out to a larger pool of people.

Despite the perks of Instagram as a marketing tool, Serene noted that those who are not tech-savvy or active on social media may not have access to their bakes prior to the opening of their physical store.

Furthermore, they are able to interact with customers face-to-face on a more personal level, she added.
