Pigeon hitches ride on MRT train

Pooping itself in fear or excitement, or both, as eateries reopen.

Not to be outdone by the wild piglet on Hong Kong's Mass Transit Railway, a pigeon in Singapore decided to make an unexpected appearance on the MRT train here.

A video was posted on the Roads.sg Facebook page on June 21 of a pigeon catching a ride on the MRT.The bird, due to its fear or excitement, or both, then left its poop on the seat, which was effective in ensuring social distancing between commuters was observed.

Some commenters expressed concerns about possible diseases carried by pigeon droppings.

Although pigeon droppings can cause a variety of diseases in humans, the health risk to most people is low, but immunocompromised individuals are more susceptible.

Members of the public are advised to wash their hands after coming into contact with bird poop and before eating or drinking.

Moreover, while bird flu can be spread by domestic poultry, feral pigeons are not likely to be carriers of bird flu.
