A total of 28 new Covid-19 cases were reported in Singapore on Monday, May 17, 2021, of which 21 are community cases.
The remaining seven are imported cases, with no new cases in the dormitories.
The emerging trend of more Covid-19 cases in Singapore is due to the increase in community cases, where the total number per week has been going up much higher.
Go from 32 per week to 149 per week
Overall, the number of new cases in the community has increased from 32 cases in the week before to 149 cases in the past week.
Unlinked cases up from 7 to 42
The number of unlinked cases in the community has also increased from seven cases in the week before to 42 cases in the past week.
Past infection numbers
Amongst the 235 confirmed cases reported from May 11 to 17, 71 cases have tested positive for their serology tests, 142 have tested negative, and 22 serology test results are pending.
Serology tests detect antibodies for Covid-19 from a past infection.
Those who test negative indicate their infection is a current one.
Two-thirds of cases symptomatic
Most of the new cases reported were symptomatic.
A total of nine cases are asymptomatic, and were detected from our proactive screening and surveillance, while 19 were symptomatic.
White Sands mall
The Ministry of Health is taking additional precautionary measures after a few Covid-19 cases had visited White Sands shopping mall during their infectious period.
As a precautionary measure, MOH will conduct special testing operations for staff who work in the mall.
To pre-emptively mitigate any potential risk of wider, undetected community transmission, MOH will also offer free Covid-19 testing for members of the public who had visited the mall rom May 2 to 11.
MOH will progressively inform these individuals via SMS notification with information on how to book an appointment for their test.
All visitors to White Sands mall from May 2 to 11 are also advised to monitor their health closely for 14 days from their
date of visit.
They are strongly encouraged to visit a Regional Screening Centre or “Swab and Send Home” (SASH) Public Health Preparedness Clinic for a free Covid-19 test if they feel unwell.
