The saga started inconspicuously enough, with a matter-of-fact article by an aesthetic doctor in Singapore about Fann Wong's cheek fillers.
Unfortunately, the article did not paint Fann in an entirely good light, which incurred the wrath of the actress' close friend and celebrity hairstylist, David Gan.
Gan then blew up the matter with vociferous objections on his Instagram account.
A particularly angry sentence addressed to the doctor reads,
"If your mother stand in the limelight you think will look like princess meh? Will look like Sadako right? NB! Please ah! Don't make me explode hor! πππππππ"
Family history
While the original article on Fann has since been deleted, the doctor has subtly hit back at Gan with another article that was published on May 18.
Titled "Only Do Treatments On Your Patients That You Would Do For Your Mother", the doctor, in his piece, recounted his childhood, describing how his mum had worked as a nightclub waitress and cashier to make ends meet after his father was retrenched.
She would leave home at 7pm, and finish her shift at 3am, then wake up at 6am to take care of her two children.
Years of neglect and little sleep caused her skin to age quickly, the doctor wrote.
His only fan
When he started his practice in the late 2000s, his mother was the first patient for almost every new procedure he learned, such as Botox injections, fillers, thread lifts, and chemical peels.
After undergoing the treatments, she was left bruised and puffy faced, sometimes experiencing pain and severe dimpling from improper execution of the procedures.
However, despite the side effects, she agreed to be her son's guinea pig again and again.
After going through more technical analysis on his mum's skin and the treatments she went through, the doctor thanked his mum for all that she has done for the family.
The article was then shared to his social media page, where he added a not-so-subtle reference to Gan's rant:
"Back in the day, she was so exhausted that she would literally crawl home from work, dishevelled hair and all β thatβs perhaps all the resemblance she had with Sadako. Today, I am pretty sure that even when she is placed in the spotlight, she looks prettier than Sadako. π€£"
