18-year-old suspect in Boon Lay slashing incident to be charged in court on Oct. 9

A 23-year-old man was attacked by another man with a knife and an 18-year-old man was arrested in relation to the incident.

On Oct. 7, the police were alerted to a case of voluntarily causing grievous hurt by dangerous weapon at Boon Lay Shopping Centre.

Police said that a 23-year-old man was attacked by another man with a knife.

On the same night, an 18-year-old man was arrested in relation to the incident.

Charged in court on Oct. 9

A news release by the police said the man will be charged in court on Oct. 9, 2020 for voluntarily causing grievous hurt by dangerous weapon under section 326 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224.

The police will also work with the prosecution to seek a court order for the man to be remanded at the Institute of Mental Health for psychiatric evaluation.

Anyone convicted for the offence of voluntarily causing grievous hurt by dangerous weapon shall be punished with imprisonment for life, or with imprisonment for a term which may extend to 15 years.

He or she shall also be liable to caning or if he is not sentenced to imprisonment for life, liable to fine.
