Since Apr. 7, most patients in Singapore's hospitals are not allowed to have any visitors until May 4, as part of the stricter safe distancing measures in place during the "circuit breaker" period, according to the Ministry of Health (MOH).

Patients who fulfill certain criteria will be allowed only one caregiver to visit them at a time.

Part of elevated social distancing measures

An MOH spokesperson said in a statement to Mothership:

"In line with the set of elevated social distancing measures which are in place from Apr 7 to May 4 2020, all public hospitals, private hospitals and community hospitals will minimise visitation for inpatients with the intent to reduce non-essential movements and contact time."

Only patients who meet the following criteria are allowed to have one designated caregiver with at a time, on compassionate grounds or where it is essential for their well-being:

  • Inpatients who are critically ill
  • Paediatric inpatients or special needs inpatients
  • Palliative inpatients
  • Inpatients lacking mental capacity
  • Non-ambulatory/elderly inpatients ready for discharge, whose caregiver need to be trained to give care at home.
  • Pregnant women admitted for delivery of babies

Visitation hours are limited and should be strictly followed, said MOH.

Patients can nominate up to 2 caregivers at SGH

According to Singapore General Hospital's (SGH) website, between Apr. 7 and May 4, or the period of the circuit-breaker, no visitors will be allowed in the ward, as part of the enhanced national measures.

For patients who fall under the above exceptions, they are allowed to nominate up to two designated caregivers, and only one of the two is allowed to visit them at any one time.

In addition, any visitors to the ward must bring their own mask, and ensure that the mask is worn at all times during the visit. You can see the revised visitation policy at other hospitals here:https://www.facebook.com/khooteckpuathospital/posts/3009318059080741
