Speaking in Parliament on Thursday (March 5) during the committee of supply debates, Health Minister Gan Kim Yong outlined the work done by healthcare workers during the Covid-19 outbreak.

Gan spoke about the integral role healthcare workers have played during the outbreak.

Gan also stated that healthcare workers are well-trained on infection prevention and control measures.

They are also provided with appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) for their safety.

Deputy Prime Minister Heng Swee Keat had announced that healthcare workers in public hospitals and institutions directly involved with treating Covid-19 patients were receiving a special bonus.

Gan announced that the senior management of the three healthcare clusters in Singapore will be donating their own Special Bonuses to the staff welfare fund of their respective clusters.

This is in recognition of their dedication at work.

The three clusters are:

Central region – National Healthcare Group (NHG) and Alexandra Health System (AHS) merged.

Eastern region –Singapore Health Services (SingHealth) and Eastern Health Alliance (EHA) merged.

Western region – National University Health System (NUHS) and Jurong Health Services (JurongHealth) merged.

According to Gan, the details of the bonuses for healthcare workers will be released in due course.

He did however emphasise the need to keep up the fight to contain the spread of COVID-19, as many factors remain uncertain.
