Covid-19 has affected football in Italy, Spain, and now England too.
The Manchester City vs Arsenal premier league, which was due to take place Thursday morning March 12 (Singapore time), has been postponed.
According to a statement on Manchester City's official website, this measure was taken as a precaution as Arsenal personnel had recently been in close contact with Evangelos Marinakis.
Marinakis, the Greek owner of Nottingham Forest, announced that he had tested positive for the virus.
Added the club:
"Manchester City FC wishes Mr Marinakis a speedy recovery, and further information will follow in the coming days about rescheduled dates, but supporters are advised not to travel to Etihad Stadium for this fixture."
Arsenal released a statement that said the personnel who met Marinakis will "self-isolate at home for 14 days from the last time they had contact".
Marinakis, who also owns Greek club Olympiakos, was present during their Europa League match with Arsenal.
According to a statement from the Premier League, Marinakis met with "several Arsenal squad members and staff."
The short notice of his infection gave the Premier League little time but to postpone the match.
Covid-19 has already prompted the Italian government to suspend the Serie A, and matches in Spain have to be played behind closed doors.
If the situation in England gets worse, additional precautionary measures may be taken.
