A 25-year-old man was charged in Singapore for trafficking etomidate vaporiser pods, also known as K-pods.
Muhammad Danial Bin Mohd Shahri was charged in court on May 19.
K-pods found in Punggol home
On May 17, Health Sciences Authority (HSA) officers acted on a tip-off and conducted an enforcement operation at Danial’s place of residence in Punggol.
Officers seized 39 vaporiser pods during the search of the unit.
Laboratory testing confirmed that the seized pods contained etomidate.
Danial was remanded for a week to assist with further investigations.
The case was mentioned again in court on May 26 and has been adjourned to Jul. 21.
Penalties
Under the Tobacco and Vaporisers Control Act 1993 (TVCA), etomidate and its analogues are listed as Specified Psychoactive Substances.
If found guilty, importers may be jailed three to 20 years and be given five to 15 strokes of the cane.
Suppliers may be liable to a jail term of two to 10 years and be given two to five strokes of the cane.
Investigations are ongoing.
