A Grab driver in Malaysia was left shocked after witnessing a passenger slap his wife inside the car.

In a Facebook post, the driver, Stanley Loi, said the incident began after he told the passenger he did not have enough change.

According to Loi, the fare was RM7 (S$2.25), but the passenger handed him RM50 (S$16.06).

Loi decided to waive the fare and let the passenger ride for free. However, he advised the passenger to prepare smaller notes in future, which reportedly angered him.

As the argument escalated, the passenger’s wife tried to intervene by placing her hand on his arm.

The passenger then slapped his wife, causing Loi to lose his temper as well, he recounted.

Dashcam footage

Loi also shared dashcam footage of the incident.

The passenger was seated with his toddler on his lap, while his wife sat beside him.

As the argument between Loi and the passenger intensified, the wife could be seen attempting to calm the situation by trying to get him to leave the car.

However, the passenger turned and struck her before yelling: “You pig, be quiet, you idiot!”

Loi then began shouting back at the passenger, with both men eventually getting out of the car to confront each other.

According to the driver, he was furious at the man for hitting the woman.

He said it was fine to argue with him, but questioned why he would start hitting his wife.

He said this made him demand that the man get out of his car.

The wife was seen frantically trying to de-escalate the situation while comforting her visibly distressed toddler.

Reported to Grab

Loi said that after they parted ways, the passenger continued the argument by messaging him through the Grab app.

He has since reported the matter to Grab.

Similarly, the passenger told Loi that he had also reported him to Grab.

“This is the first time in my three years of driving that I’ve encountered such a customer. He thinks he’s right to hit and argue with his wife. Everyone should be careful of this guy,” Loi wrote.

Grab Malaysia later commented on Loi’s post, apologising for his experience and assuring him that the matter would be handled seriously.
