The man who allegedly stabbed a 21-year-old woman, Chua Bee Ting, at Block 248 Choa Chu Kang Avenue 2 on May 26 has been charged with murder.

Mothership understands that the charge was mentioned on May 28 to the 22-year-old Malaysian man, Mohamad Faiz bin Umar, by a field magistrate at National University Hospital.

If convicted for murder, he faces the death penalty.

What happened

The incident occurred between 8:53 pm and 9:22 pm that night, inside Lift A of the HDB block, according to charge documents seen by Mothership.

After the police arrived, the officers found Chua lying motionless at the lift lobby on the 12th floor.

She was subsequently pronounced dead at the scene by a Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) paramedic.

According to Zaobao, Faiz purportedly jumped off the 18th floor after stabbing the woman, resulting in serious injuries.

He was arrested for murder at the scene and conveyed to the hospital.

Investigations are ongoing, but preliminary investigations indicate that he and the woman were known to each other, the police said.

Zaobao also reported that the two were believed to be a couple.
