An elderly man in Malaysia is seeking help from the public to give his late wife a proper send-off after revealing he cannot afford the cost of her funeral.
The appeal was made known through a Facebook post by prominent Malaysian social activist Kuan Chee Heng, affectionately known as Uncle Kentang, after one of his volunteers visited the man during the death confirmation process.
According to the volunteer, the husband had broken down and laid bare his situation.
"I don't even have enough money to get a haircut, let alone afford her cremation so she can leave this world with dignity," the husband had said.
He also repeatedly apologised to his late wife, Too Moi, telling her he loved her but was unable to give her the farewell she deserved.
"I’m sorry, my dear wife. I love you. But I am unable to give you a proper funeral. I am truly so sorry."
The man and his son eventually turned to Uncle Kentang for help, requesting that his wife Too Moi's ashes be scattered at sea following her cremation.
"Our son and I both hope that you can leave in peace and comfort," he said.
According to Uncle Kentang's post, the family still requires RM5,800 (S$2,743) to cover the cost of the coffin and funeral arrangements.
The organisation is now calling on the public to come forward and help the family give Too Moi the farewell she deserves.
