Chinese actor Zhang Linghe, known for his role in the hit drama "Pursuit of Jade", was scheduled to attend a promotional event for eyewear brand MOLSION at a shopping mall in Guangxi, China, on May 31.

However, the venue was overwhelmed by the large number of fans who had gathered even before the event began.

As the crowds surged forward in an attempt to enter the mall, glass panels at the mall's main entrance shattered, causing broken shards to be scattered across the ground.

Videos circulating on social media showed large crowds waiting outside the mall ahead of its opening.

When the doors opened, the fans pushed forward, causing the glass panels at the entrance to give way.

Screams were heard as the situation briefly descended into chaos, according to Taiwanese media outlet ETtoday.

Despite shards of broken glass scattered across the ground, fans continued rushing into the mall, seemingly unfazed by the potential danger.

Concerned members of the public took to social media to express alarm over the conditions, Yahoo News reported.

One user questioned whether it was safe to bring a child to the mall for a meal, prompting numerous replies advising against the visit.

"I suggest you don't go at this time. As far as I know, all six floors are full of people right now," one commenter wrote.

Event forced online

According to The Straits Times, organisers of the event subsequently took to Weibo to announce a change of programme.

Zhang's on-site appearance was called off, with organisers citing safety concerns and the need to prevent potential injuries.

The event was changed to an online livestream instead.

The actor was announced as MOLSION's brand ambassador in April 2026, Yahoo News reported.

On the first day of the partnership alone, the brand reportedly recorded sales of 21 million yuan (S$3.97 million), underscoring the actor's strong commercial appeal and popularity.
