A 67-year-old man in Malaysia died after he was run over by his own car at his home in Batang Kali, Hulu Selangor.

According to officials, he apparently failed to engage his handbrake when he parked his vehicle, a Proton Saga, on a slope, Bernama reported.

The incident occurred on May 27 at about 5:18pm.

The victim had parked his car in the garage before going out to close the gate.

The vehicle then rolled backwards and hit him, causing him to fall and be trapped underneath it.

Local police received a report on the incident at about 5:30pm.

Firefighters arrived at the scene at about 5:43pm and assisted in removing the man from the vehicle.

Preliminary investigations suggested that the man parked on a sloped surface as the garage was sloped towards the gate.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene.

He sustained severe head injuries and was conveyed to a local hospital for a post-mortem.
