6 male teens, aged 13-16, arrested for stealing 2 motorcycles in Punggol
The teens were allegedly able to steal both motorcycles as the transponders had been left inside their storage compartments.
The police have arrested six male teenagers, aged between 13 and 16, for their suspected involvement in stealing two motorcycles in Singapore.
Between Apr. 12 and 13, the police were alerted to the two cases of theft at the vicinity of Punggol Drive and Punggol Central.
The identities of the six male teenagers were established through follow-up investigations and they were arrested on Apr. 14.
Transponders left at motorcycles
Preliminary investigations revealed that the teenagers were able to steal both motorcycles as the transponders had been left inside the motorcycles’ storage compartments.
Both motorcycles have since been recovered.
Investigations also revealed that none of the teenagers possessed a valid driving or riding licence.
To be charged
The six teenagers will be charged in youth court on Apr. 15 for the offence of theft of motor vehicle.
The offence carries a jail term of up to seven years and a fine.
The police said all motorcycle owners should park their motorcycles in well-lit areas, install anti-theft alarms, use a canvas to cover the motorcycle with both ends secured, use additional locking devices, remove the ignition key and lock the motorcycle, and not leave spare keys or transponders inside any storage compartments of the motorcycle.
