S'pore man saves motorcyclist trapped under van in Woodlands, allegedly an off-duty military personnel

A Good Samaritan was spotted saving a motorcyclist trapped under a van after an accident along Woodlands Avenue 6 on Mar. 9.

A passer-by who witnessed the act told Mothership that the man was also a motorcyclist who had narrowly avoided the accident himself.

Seeing the trapped rider, the man quickly rushed to switch off the van's engine and gathered a few people nearby to help push the vehicle so they could free the motorcyclist.

The police confirmed with Mothership that they were alerted to an accident involving a van, a car and a motorcycle along Woodlands Avenue 6 at about 10:45pm that night.

A 23-year-old male motorcyclist and a 13-year-old female van passenger were conveyed conscious to the hospital.

A 32-year-old male van driver is assisting with investigations.

Good Samaritan

The reader said the man switched off the van's engine because the driver was in "pure shock and could not react".

He then gathered several bystanders, and they eventually managed to push the van aside, after which he pulled the injured motorcyclist out from underneath it.

The motorcyclist was screaming in pain as he had sustained a deep laceration on his leg, the reader said.

There were 10 children and four adults in the van, and one of the women was pregnant, he added.

After pulling the motorcyclist to the side of the road, the man apparently gathered the children, calmed everyone down, and helped move them to safety.

Off-duty military personnel

After speaking to the man who helped manage the situation, the reader learned that he was an off-duty military personnel who had previously worked in traffic management.

"Which is why I saw he could efficiently handle the situation well," the reader said.

Another man who identified himself as an off-duty officer also stepped in to help manage the crowd, as many bystanders had gathered at the scene.

The reader said he wanted to commend the officers for their efforts and the "kampung spirit of Admiralty".
