Mahathir, 100, suffers fractured hip, Anwar wishes him a speedy recovery
Mahathir is expected to remain in hospital for a few weeks.
Former Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad has been hospitalised after fracturing his hip when he fell at home on Jan. 6.
His aide, Sufi Yusoff, confirmed the fall had occurred in Mahathir’s home at around 7:30 am.
He was conscious when taken to the National Heart Institute in Kuala Lumpur, where he was admitted, as reported by the Malay Mail.
After a medical assessment, it was confirmed that the centenarian had suffered a fracture to his right hip and would likely remain for the next few weeks for “treatment and observation”.
Anwar reacts
Incumbent PM Anwar Ibrahim, currently overseas on a working visit, posted on social media that he and his wife Wan Azizah were praying for Mahathir’s “health and speedy recovery”.
Anwar and Mahathir have had a combative relationship, the latter having jailed the former in the past, and continues to be critical of current government policy.
