Child, 2, throws diaper into Haidilao pot in China, police called

Chinese social media had been awash with posts about a two-year-old child who had purportedly thrown a diaper into a hot pot.

In the video, the guardians were seen changing the child's diaper in the booth.

The baby then throws a diaper into the pot being used by the table.

On Jan. 8, 2026, the hotpot chain responded to these online claims.

Haidilao told Jiemian News that the incident took place on Dec. 31, 2025, at a Haidilao outlet in Xuzhou.

The restaurant said it immediately discarded the affected cookware and reported the matter to the police.

"Local police subsequently handled the child's guardians who were present at the scene in accordance with the law."

The incident brought up comparisons to this earlier unrelated incident.

According to Global Times, one of the guardians published an apology statement, extending his apologies to the companies affected.

He added: "I will draw profound lessons from this incident, correct my mistakes, and turn over a new leaf."
