Woman, 25, makes fake police report after losing S$3,161 gambling at Genting to avoid boyfriend's scolding
She was also found to be illegally staying in Malaysia.
A foreigner in Malaysia allegedly lost RM10,000 (S$3,161) at a casino in Bentong.
Fearing she would be scolded by her boyfriend, the 25-year-old made a false police report to claim she had been robbed.
The Malaysian police discovered her lies and have since charged her with intentionally filing a false report and for illegally staying in the country, reported New Straits Times.
Police found no record of robbery
The woman had claimed that she was robbed by two foreign women at 5:30pm on Jan. 6 in front of the elevator at a hotel in Genting.
Local police responded to the report and checked the hotel's CCTV footage, but found no record of the woman being robbed.
After investigations, the police discovered that she had lost the money while gambling and lied about being robbed to avoid being scolded by her boyfriend.
She was also unable to provide identification documents, police said.
For intentionally filing a false report, she could face up to six months in prison, a fine of up to RM2,000 (S$632), or both.
For staying without a valid pass to enter and stay in the country, she could be fined up to RM10,000 (S$3,161), jailed up to 5 years, or both.
