A Singapore woman whose footwear broke at Newton MRT station on a rainy day in December 2025 praised its station managers for going the extra mile to borrow their off-duty colleague's slippers for her.

Susan Loh said in a Dec. 13, 2025 Facebook post that she was rushing out and chose to wear sandals as she did not want to wear track shoes that day.

Loh added that she was travelling to "town areas" via the MRT when her sandals suddenly broke at Newton MRT station.

Extra mile

Despite the unexpected situation, there were "so many kind souls" who helped her through it, she said.

These kind souls were station managers Mohamed Yadly and Jeffrey Chen, together with assistant station Manager Maharaja Chettier, who first tried to fix her shoe, according to an SBS Transit Ltd Facebook post.

The post added that when fixing the shoe was not possible, "they went the extra mile by borrowing a pair of slippers from an off-duty colleague for [her] so that she could continue her journey safely".

Heartwarming gesture

Following their kind act, Loh returned to the station the next day to return the slippers and express her gratitude.

In her Facebook post, Loh thanked the staff for their kindness, which she said really warmed her heart.

SBS Transit also praised the trio for their actions, "reminding us why we do what we do".

Its post read: "This is service with heart, and we couldn't be more proud!"
