Human skull falls from ceiling during renovation at Thai home, believed to be missing Cambodian man
It is believed that the worker was electrocuted while attempting to steal wiring from the then-vacant property.
A renovation worker in Thailand was working on a two-storey detached house in Pathum Thani’s Lam Luk Ka district when a grim discovery befell her.
She was repairing a hole on second-floor ceiling tiles and was using a pipe to clear debris from the hole when a human skull came down, reported Khaosod English and Bangkok Post.
A clothed skeleton, a wire cutter and a migrant Cambodian worker’s ID card were also found at the scene after authorities investigated further.
Khaosod says the worker was allegedly electrocuted while attempting to steal wiring from the then-vacant property.
Renovation works
Kanchana Charoenthong, 59, who found the remains, said the house had a strong smell since they began work last month.
They had assumed then that a monitor lizard had hidden some carcasses on the premises.
On Jan. 6, she had returned to work after the New Year holidays to repair a hole on second-floor ceiling tiles.
That was when she found the human skull.
“I was shocked when the skull came down with the pipe,” Kanchana told investigators.
She immediately informed the homeowner.
Missing Cambodian worker
Investigators found an identification card that belonged to a 29-year-old Cambodian construction worker who went missing about two years ago.
Residents in the vicinity said that the house had been abandoned for several years and that wire thefts were common in the area, Khaosod English reported.
They also recalled that the man’s family had searched for him extensively before eventually returning to Cambodia when they could not find him.
The remains have been sent to the Central Institute of Forensic Science for further confirmation of the identity.
Authorities said they are working to contact the man’s family in Cambodia.
