Parliamentary motion filed by Leader of the House Indranee Rajah on Pritam Singh's suitability to continue as Leader of the Opposition
The motion was filed by Leader of the House Indranee Rajah.
Leader of the House Indranee Rajah has filed a parliamentary motion that questions the suitability of Workers' Party (WP) chief Pritam Singh to continue as Leader of the Opposition, in light of his court conviction in the Raeesah Khan case.
The motion, which will be raised on or after Jan. 13, 2026, also expresses regret at Pritam's conduct, the Office of the Leader of the House said in response to queries from Mothership.
LO leadership position with important privileges
A copy of the motion, as seen by Mothership, affirms that "honesty and integrity are fundamental pillars of Singapore's parliamentary and political system."
Noting the court outcome and the findings of the Committee of Privileges (COP), it expresses regret at the conduct of Pritam Singh, which it calls "dishonourable and unbecoming of a Member of Parliament."
It then moves to consider that Pritam's conviction and conduct "render him unsuitable to continue as the Leader of the Opposition".
The Leader of the Opposition is a "parliamentary leadership position carrying important responsibilities, duties and privileges", the motion read.
"His continuation in this role would undermine the standing of Parliament and public confidence in the integrity of Singapore’s political system," the motion continued.
The motion also noted that the court outcome and COP findings have implications for WP Chair Sylvia Lim and Vice-Chair Faisal Manap and called on this to be considered separately.
It also calls upon all MPs to respect and abide by the law, act with integrity at all times, and honour the trust placed in them by Singaporeans.
Background
Indranee previously said that it is important for Parliament to take notice of Pritam's court conviction and that the matter will be tabled for debate in the January 2026 Parliament sitting.
The WP has said it will convene a disciplinary panel to look into possible contraventions of party constitution by Pritam.
This comes after a request for a Special Cadre Members’ Conference (CMC) was made by over 20 WP cadres.
This CMC will be held in February, WP said.
