Chu Collagen’s chicken soup story is simmering to a close after five years in the F&B scene.
The soup brand was founded by Singapore filmmaker Jack Neo's daughter, Ethel Neo, 34, and her husband Peter Lau, 40, in April 2020.
In an Instagram post on Jan. 7, "Why we closed a million dollar business", the couple revealed that the brand’s time had come to an end, with the main reason boiling down to logistics and distance.
'Managing food business remotely is extremely hard'
Lau explained that it was a "difficult decision to close Chu Collagen".
The couple cited three factors: Their relocation to Sydney, Australia in July 2025, effort, and their wish to focus on their other businesses.
The couple also run Eclat by Oui, a jewellery brand and Saints & Sports, a loungewear and athleisure company.
Neo added that running an F&B business remotely was not feasible:
“We really tried managing the business for six months while we were in Sydney but it was just so difficult.”
Chu Collagen became well-known locally for selling double-boiled frozen collagen soup packs that were available at major supermarkets islandwide.
The business was profitable and reports show the brand hit about S$1 million in revenue within its first year.
The couple have yet to announce their closing date, but in a response to an Instagram comment, Neo stated that Chinese New Year will be Chu Collagen's last run.
