'I tried my best to save her': M'sian rapper Namewee speaks out about Taiwanese influencer's death
He said the image of her dying in front of him will be etched in his mind forever.
Malaysian rapper Namewee has spoken out about the death of Taiwanese influencer Iris Hsieh and being at the centre of investigations into her death.
The rapper was released on bail on Nov. 13, nine days after he was taken into remand, as police await the autopsy report.
Eight hours of questioning per day
In a Facebook post on Nov. 14, Namewee, whose real name is Wee Meng Chee, wrote that this was the longest he has spent in police detention.
"I was interrogated by six different groups of police officers, including those on the day of the incident and the day after," he said.
Each interrogation lasted an average of eight hours, with the longest lasting 15, he recounted.
He named the various police units which participated in the investigations, which included officers from the country's criminal investigation department and narcotics bureau.
"They used various means to take my statement. They also used various technological methods to carry out detailed investigation," the rapper said.
He commented that the police were extremely meticulous and commended their professionalism.
Did his best to save her
Namewee then turned to reflect on Hsieh's passing.
"This is the first time in my life where someone died in front of my eyes. I was extremely upset, helpless and shocked. I tried my best to save her, but it was too late. The image will be etched in my mind forever."
The rapper also urged the public not to judge someone based on their career choice.
"Just because she was an OnlyFans creator did not mean she wasn't making an honest living," Namewee commented.
"Please stop cyberbullying the deceased," he said.
