The SG60 National Day Parade (NDP) will be special for the Quek household as father and son march in the parade together in the same contingent.

According to Defence Pioneer, the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) magazine, Timothy Quek and his father, Jesper Quek, will march in the Digital and Intelligence Service (DIS) GOH contingent.

Perhaps it is more special for the Queks because Jesper is the Contingent Commander.

"I'm excited and looking forward to such a memorable moment in my life to be able to march alongside my son," said Jesper.

"It's about carrying on the legacy my father has created," Timothy added.

While Timothy did not consider joining the SAF until his Basic Military Training (BMT), he grew up on stories of his father's time in the SAF.

After his BMT, Timothy began to entertain the idea of a career in SAF and enlisting gave him a strong sense of purpose and motivation to give back to the nation, Defence Pioneer wrote.

Timothy signed on with the DIS in 2024 to his father's surprise.

"I did not expect that he would follow in my footsteps, but I feel a sense of achievement that he has grown up to be a man serving the SAF and protecting our nation," Jesper said.

Having a similar role to his father also gave Timothy a deeper sense of appreciation for his father's responsibilities in the military, and he is determined to honour that legacy in his own way.
