HSA raids Coleman Street nightclub for illegal vape sales, fines 5 on the spot

During a crackdown by authorities at a Coleman Street nightclub on May 15, its 45-year-old manager admitted to selling e-vaporisers (vapes) to his staff members.

Three men and two women, aged between 22 and 40, were also found by Health Sciences Authority (HSA) officers to have vapes and components.

All five were fined on the spot.

The raid

HSA said that on May 15, its officers raided Club Slim, a nightclub in Excelsior Shopping Centre at Coleman Street and uncovered an active trade in illegal vapes and related accessories.

Checks were conducted on club patrons there.

Club Slim's manager admitted to officers that he sold vapes to the club’s staff members.

When officers searched his vehicle and residence, they found additional evidence that allegedly links him to an illegal distribution network.

The manager is currently assisting HSA in investigations on the possession and sale of vapes.

HSA also fined five persons at the nightclub on the spot for the possession of vapes and components.

HSA said that the raid was part of its stepped-up enforcement and efforts to combat the illegal sale and use of e-vaporisers at nightlife establishments.

What are the penalties?

In Singapore, those found to possess, use or purchase vapes can be fined up to S$2,000.

First-time offenders who import, distribute, sell or offer for sale prohibited tobacco products like vapes and their components can be fined up to S$10,000, jailed up to six months or both.

Repeat offenders can face fines of up to S$20,000, imprisonment of up to 12 months or both.
