S'pore's 15th Parliament to open on Sep. 5, MPs to be sworn in
The first session of Singapore's 15th Parliament will commence at 5pm on a Friday.
The first session of Singapore's 15th Parliament will commence at 5pm on Sep. 5, 2025.
The sitting will start with the election of the Speaker and the swearing-in of Members of Parliament (MPs) elected during the 2025 general election, said Leader of the House Indranee Rajah in a Jun. 13 media release.
There will be 97 elected MPs and two Non-constituency Members of Parliament (NCMPs) in the 15th Parliament.
Out of the 97 MPs, 87 of them are from the People's Action Party (PAP), led by Prime Minister Lawrence Wong.
The remaining 10 seats and the two NCMPs are from the Workers' Party (WP), led by Leader of Opposition Pritam Singh.
President's address later in the day
On Sep. 5, President Tharman Shanmugaratnam will also deliver his opening address, which will outline the priorities, polices, and programmes of the government.
The debate on the president's address will be held from Sep. 22 to 26.
During his speech at the swearing-in ceremony of new Cabinet ministers on May 23, President Tharman encouraged MPs to remember their "solemn responsibility" to serve Singapore and Singaporeans, especially in view of global and domestic challenges ahead:
"Debate in Parliament with conviction, but always with respect. Argue your case vigorously, but never compromise on honesty and integrity. Critique policies robustly, but also offer alternatives for evaluation.
Above all, remember that you share the same ultimate goal: To build a fulfilling and cohesive future for Singaporeans."
