Mun Zuk, a porridge stall at Westgate Mall, is looking for a male customer who overpaid S$534.60 for his meal on Jun. 10 afternoon.

Speaking to Shin Min Daily News, the owner of the stall, surnamed Chen (transliteration), said the man bought a meal that cost S$5.40, at around 2pm on Tuesday.

However, he ended up paying S$540 via PayNow, and when the stall found out about the error, the man had already left.

As its employees were unable to locate the man, Mun Zuk posted a notice on its Facebook page at around 6pm on Jun. 10, which included a photo of the man.

In the notice, Mun Zuk asked the man, or those who could identify him, to reach out to the stall via Facebook or WhatsApp at 9634 8383.

"No questions asked — we just want to return the money to its rightful owner," wrote the stall.

Stall searched for customer immediately after noticing error

According to Chen, the stall employee who handled the man's payment did not notice the error immediately because they had just started working, and the incident happened during peak lunch hour, reported Shin Min.

As such, the employee did not have the time to check the transaction amount promptly.

When the employee noticed the error, they immediately began searching for the man in the mall, but to no avail, recounted Chen.

Chen shared that the patron was a Caucasian man who was about 185cm tall.

He was also wearing spectacles at the time of his purchase.

Although the stall contacted the bank to try to return the overpaid sum, the bank apparently said the man would need to contact the bank first before it could take further action.

Shin Min also reported that it understands that when diners paid for their meals via PayNow, stalls could only see the payment amount and time.

They are unable to access the payers' personal information, such as names and phone numbers, to make refunds.
