A brutal double murder in Melaka, Malaysia, thought to have been a robbery gone wrong, has taken a shocking turn.

Following investigations, it is now believed that a mother and her eldest son were murdered at home by the woman's second son, who is a 17-year-old teenager.

Planned murder

The youth suspect had allegedly long been unhappy with the pressure that his mum had put on him regarding his studies, Sin Chew Daily reported.

The woman, 51-year-old Vernita Boon Chiew Yen, worked as a Chinese teacher in a primary school.

She had apparently frequently scolded her son as his SPM (Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia) national examinations were coming up.

The youth then allegedly plotted to murder his mother in the early hours of the morning on Jun. 12, while she was asleep.

But he was allegedly caught in the act by his 21-year-old older brother, Jarek Lim Boon Kai.

In the tussle that followed, the second son is believed to have stabbed both his brother and his mother to death in their family's living room.

Investigations revealed stab wounds on their necks, waists, and backs.

Youngest son severely injured

The second son also purportedly stabbed his 13-year-old younger brother, who was told to leave the house, but resisted.

The boy was severely injured and is currently hospitalised in the intensive care unit of the Melaka General Hospital.

Tried to destroy evidence

The Melaka police chief said that after an interrogation, the youth confessed that he had been dissatisfied with his mother "for a long time".

He'd hidden his weapon — a 20cm-long folding knife — in his schoolbag, and later attempted to destroy the evidence.

He was not under the influence of drugs or alcohol at the time, the police confirmed.

Previously, neighbours said all three boys were "usually very polite", and that the tragedy was unexpected.

Investigations for murder are ongoing.
