Pop-up comic library with over 7,000 books & board games opens at Punggol Coast Mall
Libraries are not the same anymore.

A pop-up library in Punggol Coast Mall has opened with over 7,000 comics, graphic novels, game-themed books, and board games.
The library opened on Apr. 30.
The Comics and Games Library is organised by the National Library Board (NLB), JTC Corporation and Origame, a company specialising in publishing Asian-themed board games.

When Mothership went down, we saw several comic book covers, including "She-Hulk" and "The Amazing Spider-Man," on display.

There was also a TV screen displaying a Generative AI feature that visualises literary classics with a twist.

Fully self-serviced library
The library is a self-service library with no staff.
Visitors must scan a library-compliant ID or NLB eCard on the NLB app at the entrance gantry to enter.

How to borrow books
To borrow books, visitors have to log into the NLB Mobile app and tap the scanner icon to scan each book's barcode or QR code.
They can then head to the exit gantry, which automatically detects the books visitors take before they exit.
No bookdrops are available at the Comics and Games Library, so books must be returned to an NLB library like the Punggol Regional Library.
Games corner
Visitors can choose and play from a wide selection of board and card games at the games corner.
The games, however, cannot be borrowed and can only be played within the library.
They are also recommended for ages six and above.

There is also a Singapore Comics Showcase here, which features rare and important works from Singapore's comic scene.
The comics were curated by Johnny Lau, who created the iconic "Mr Kiasu" comic series.

This is not the first time NLB has had a pop-up library.
NLB opened a self-service Japanese manga library pop-up at City Square Mall in 2023.
There are also pop-up comics libraries at Anchorpoint Mall and West Coast Community Centre.
A recently opened pop-up library at Tampines Changkat Community Club has a sci-fi and fantasy theme, which will open till Feb. 22, 2026.
