Lorry catches on fire at Bishan St 12 carpark, causes explosion at 3:10am

Residents in a Housing and Development Board (HDB) estate in Bishan heard an explosion in the wee hours of the morning on May 10.

The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) told Mothership that they were alerted to a fire involving a lorry at 111 Bishan Street 12, at about 3am.

SCDF subsequently extinguished the fire and no injuries were reported.

Footage taken by a resident from a nearby block at 3:10am showed an SCDF vehicle arriving at the scene.

Some residents were hanging around in the car park, presumably to see what was going on.

A loud explosion was then heard from around the corner of the block, with flames briefly illuminating the night.

SCDF said that SCDF personnel extinguished the fire using a water jet and hosereel.

There were no reported injuries.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
