About 1,000 pet owners and their adorable furkids showed up for a Vesak Day pet blessing event in Serangoon on May 10.

The pet blessing event is organised annually by Thekchen Choling Singapore, a temple in Jalan Besar.

This year marks the fourth edition of this event, which is typically held at the temple for devotees.

Due to overwhelming popularity, the blessing experience was held at an open field next to NEX shopping mall this year.

It is part of a three-day event held from May 10 to 12.

Cute pets everywhere

Large numbers of pet owners showed up with their pets — or pictures of them — to receive their blessings from Venerable Sanghas.

Aside from cats and dogs, ducks and hamsters showed up too.

Apart from the pet blessing experience, the event features booths set up by animal welfare organisations such as Action for Singapore Dogs and Metta Cats & Dogs Sanctuary.

One of the event highlights is the display of a Giant Wish-Fulfilling Thangka of Shakyamuni Buddha, a sacred art piece from the Tibetan tradition.

There are also games, rides, food and Instagram-worthy spots for friends and families to celebrate Vesak Day.

A temple spokesperson said they expect more than 5,000 visitors over the three-day event.
