Singapore national shuttler Loh Kean Yew claimed his first title in 14 months, after defeating home favourite Chou Tien Chen in the Taipei Open men's singles finals on May 11.

World Number 11 Loh, 27, started out strong, beating Taiwanese World Number 7 Chou 21-14 in the first game played at Taipei Arena.

However, Chou, 35, rallied to take the second set with a 21-15 scoreline.

Nevertheless, Loh remained resilient to close out the third game 22-20.

This is Loh's first Badminton World Federation (BWF) World Tour title since winning the Spain Masters in March 2024.

It brings Loh's total tally to five, including victories at the 2021 BWF World Championships, the 2019 Thailand Masters and 2021 Hylo Open.

With this victory, Loh also avenged his loss in the 2024 Thailand Masters final to Chou.

The two now have a 4-4 head to head record.
