PAP's Henry Kwek to defend Kebun Baru SMC seat, up against PSP's Tony Tan
Kwek has been an MP since 2015.
The People's Action Party (PAP) will be fielding Henry Kwek to defend his seat in Kebun Baru SMC.
Kwek, 48, became an MP in 2015.
He won the Kebun Baru seat against Kumaran Pillai from the Progress Singapore Party (PSP), with 62.97 per cent of the votes.
Speaking to the media on Apr. 19, Kwek laid out priorities in areas like providing support for daily essentials and helping the elderly to age well.
In this new reality that Singapore is entering, Kwek said that the role of the MP must be to "listen closely with the workers, the business owners, and the parents".
"And lived experience must shape passionate, practical policy."
Will contest against PSP's Tony Tan
Kwek looks to be going up against PSP's Tony Tan, whose wife is PSP first vice-chairperson Hazel Poa.
On Apr. 17, Tan, a former Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) scholar, was announced as PSP's candidate to contest Kebun Baru SMC.
The 55-year-old runs several businesses in the education and gaming industry.
Tan was also involved in previous general elections, performing ground operation duties for PSP.
