The Progress Singapore Party (PSP) has announced that it will be fielding Jeffrey Khoo and Tony Tan as candidates in the Marymount and Kebun Baru Single-Member Constituencies (SMCs), respectively.

At a doorstop interview on Apr. 17, chairman of PSP Tan Cheng Bock said that he is "sending good people" for the General Election as Singapore deserves "good men and good women to come forward and serve".

Jeffrey Khoo

During the interview, Tan said that Khoo is "not an inexperienced" politician, noting that he had been with the party since "day one".

Khoo, 56, had previously contested in the 2020 General Election as a candidate in West Coast Group Representative Constituency (GRC).

He will be facing off against People's Action Party (PAP) Member of Parliament (MP) Gan Siow Huang, who was elected in 2020.

The pair had also met during a walkabout at Bishan North Shopping Mall on Apr. 12, with party chief Leong Mun Wai in attendance.

PSP contested in Marymount SMC in GE2020, but candidate Ang Yong Guan lost to Gan with 44.96 per cent of the vote.

Khoo, a father of three, works in parametric insurance with years of leadership experience in some multinational companies.

He listed three things that he "deeply" cares about: Cost of living, jobs, and education.

In a message to Marymount residents, Khoo said:

"We hope you give us a chance. I'll be knocking on the doors, meeting you, shaking your hands the next few days. I hope that you can ask me as many questions as you want. At the end of the day, give us the opportunity to serve you. Give me the opportunity to serve you as your Member of Parliament."

Tony Tan

On introducing the candidate for Kebun Baru SMC Tony Tan, chairman Tan said that Tony had "caught his attention" with his kindness "towards people and also towards friends".

Tan said that Tony was initially "quite reluctant" to run as his wife Hazel Poa, PSP's first vice-chairperson, is already involved in the election.

"I told him, when the country calls you must come out, because you've got the talent. And you're going to hide your talent? I think that is not fair. So Tony is here."

He also highlighted how he is "sending good people" for the General Election, as he thinks that Singapore "deserves good men and good women" who would come forward and serve.

A former Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) scholar, Tony was also involved in the previous elections, performing ground operation duties for PSP.

Professionally, the 55-year-old runs several businesses in the education and gaming industry.

On his reason for contesting, Tony said:

"I hope that we could build a better Singapore. With a lot of challenges now facing us, we should strive not to leave anyone behind.

And on the national policy side, I feel that the government can do more in terms of providing social support and education to better realise the potential of every individual Singaporean so that they can maximise their contribution to our community".
