GE2025: Ex-MOT director Foo Cexiang spotted in Punggol 4 days before Nomination Day
He was spotted numerous times in Punggol over the last few weeks.
Foo Cexiang, the former director for private and future mobility division at the Ministry of Transport (MOT), showed up at an event at One Punggol on Apr. 19, four days before the Nomination Day for general election (GE) 2025.
Foo's appearance at the Family Carnival event hinted that he could be contesting in the newly formed Punggol group representation constituency (GRC).
He attended the event alongside Teo Chee Hean, Janil Puthucheary, and Yeo Wanling, who were former Members of Parliament (MPs) for Pasir Ris-Punggol GRC, reported Lianhe Zaobao.
Former MP for Punggol West single-member constituency (SMC) Sun Xueling was also present.
Teo is the Senior Minister and Coordinating Minister for National Security.
Janil is the Senior Minister of State at the Ministry of Digital Development and Information.
Sun is the Minister of State at the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Ministry of Social and Family Development.
Foo was one of the People's Action Party (PAP) new faces whom Prime Minister Lawrence Wong introduced in a video on Apr. 15.
On the same day, Foo announced on LinkedIn that he has joined PSA Singapore as its vice-president for port ecosystem development.
Active in Punggol since April
Even before the Apr. 19 event, Foo, who left MOT on Apr. 1, was spotted numerous times in Punggol over the last few weeks, attending community events and conducting house visits.
During a community event held on Apr. 6, Foo told the media that he started volunteering in Punggol a week ago and had been learning from then-MPs overseeing Punggol estates.
However, he declined to comment on whether he would be contesting in Punggol GRC.
At the Apr. 19 event, Foo reiterated that regardless of whether he will be fielded in the newly formed GRC, he will learn from the former MPs, interact more with the residents, and understand the issues that concern them during this period.
PAP slate for Punggol GRC to be confirmed: Janil
Likewise, Janil also told the media at the same event that the PAP slate for Punggol GRC has yet to be confirmed, reported Zaobao.
Following changes to the electoral boundaries, Teo's ward, Pasir Ris West, will be part of Pasir Ris-Changi GRC.
Teo was the anchor minister for Pasir Ris-Punggol GRC previously.
Janil added that regardless of whether he will stand in Punggol GRC or whether new members will join the slate, the former MPs overseeing Punggol estates will work together and continue doing their jobs.
