The People's Action Party's (PAP) Ang Mo Kio GRC team announced its slate of candidates for GE2025 at PAP's Teck Ghee branch office on Apr. 19.

Helmed by Senior Minister Lee Hsien Loong, the team consists of incumbents Darryl David, Nadia Ahmad Samdin as well as new members Victor Lye and Jasmin Lau.

Three-term Gan Thiam Poh and one-term Ng Ling Ling will be stepping down.

SM Lee thanked Gan Thiam Poh and Ng Ling Ling for their contributions

At the press conference, SM Lee thanked Gan and Ng for their years of service.

On Ng's contribution, SM Lee mentioned:

"Over the past five years, she's improved the area, overseeing the upgrading of flats and precincts, brought to residents new parks and playgrounds like Lexus Hill Farm and a new water playground at Buangkok Square Mall. She's also introduced initiatives to build a better community, like the Jalan Kayo Community Health Club."

Over the three terms, Gan has served residents in the Punggol South division of Pasir Ris-Punggol GRC, Sengkang South and Fernvale divisions of Ang Mo Kio GRC.

SM Lee said:

"His deep care for the community has touched many lives, helped him to bond with residents wherever he served and has been an inspiration for me, activists, volunteers as well as colleagues, and I know his residents will miss him."

Jasmin Lau and Victor Lye join SM Lee's team

In her introduction, Lau shared how playing netball and basketball has shaped her as a person.

Playing the center role in netball, Lau gave a glimpse of herself as a team player.

"My role is called the center, and my job is to move my team from defence to attack and to create opportunities for my shooter teammates to put the ball in."

She also shared her experience as a civil servant for 19 years.

"For 19 years or so, I've worked on healthcare, manpower and finance policies. I've had the privilege to engage many diverse stakeholders from around the world, look at the big picture and then put these together to make sound policy decisions. These experiences are now the strong foundations that I bring into the new court of politics, and I believe that as I hone my skills, I will be able to serve the Singaporeans effectively."

Lau also shared that she's a young mother of two boys and her relationship with her two younger siblings. Her sister is 13 years younger than her and that brought her and her brother together to take care of her.

Now the three of them take care of their parents as a team.

Lye, a community volunteer of 26 years who spent 13 years in Aljunied GRC, shared his aspirations for the country.

"I want our children, your children, to have a fair start in life. I want our families to lead productive, happy, healthy lives. I want our seniors to live with purpose and dignity. We must keep Singapore special going on for many more years to come, and with that, we need to choose honest, competent and trusted leaders."

He also shared that he used to live in Ang Mo Kio so he knows the place well and thanked the residents he met so far in the area.

Potentially a three-cornered fight

The constituency might well see a three-cornered fight with the People's Power Party (PPP) and Singapore United Party (SUP).

PPP declared its intention to contest in Ang Mo Kio GRC during a walkabout on Apr. 5, with the team slated to be led by party treasurer William Lim Lian Chin.

Meanwhile, SUP announced its lineup of candidates for Ang Mo Kio GRC on Apr. 17.

The team, helmed by SUP secretary-general Andy Zhu, also consists of party chairman Ridhuan Chandran, Vincent Ng Kian Guan, Noraini Yunus and Nigel Ng.
