New SAFRA clubhouse at Bayshore to be largest in S'pore
It will replace SAFRA Tampines which was built in 1988.
A new SAFRA clubhouse, the largest in Singapore, will be built in the Bayshore area in the next few years.
This was announced by Minister for Defence Ng Eng Hen and Senior Minister of State for Defence Zaqy Mohamad during the Committee of Supply Debates in parliament on Mar. 3, 2025.
Will replace SAFRA Tampines
Zaqy said that the Ministry of Defence (Mindef) will build a new SAFRA clubhouse in the Bayshore area to better serve servicemen and their families in the East.
It is planned to be ready in a few years' time, and will replace SAFRA's oldest clubhouse, SAFRA Tampines, which was built in 1988, Zaqy added.
There are currently seven SAFRA clubhouses in Singapore.
They are located in Choa Chu Kang, Jurong, Mount Faber, Punggol, Tampines, Toa Payoh, and Yishun.
SAFRA Choa Chu Kang, the seventh and newest clubhouse, was opened in June 2023.
Once completed, SAFRA Bayshore will be SAFRA’s largest clubhouse — about 50 per cent larger than the average SAFRA clubhouse — and "will offer unique family, entertainment and recreational facilities", said Zaqy.
Zaqy added that the clubhouse will have direct access to an MRT for the convenience of users.
To give back to servicemen
Zaqy highlighted that SAFRA was started in 1972 to recognise national servicemen, adding that its clubhouses provide servicemen and their families with affordable recreational facilities and lifestyle offerings.
"I cannot emphasise enough the role that the families play in supporting our servicemen through their National Service (NS) commitments," Zaqy said.
In his speech during the debate, Minister for Defence Ng Eng Hen had highlighted measures to build up the defence capabilities of the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF), invest in training infrastructure and strengthen defence partnerships.
Ng said that Mindef is doing more to maximise and recognise the contributions of our servicemen so that they remain committed.
