United States president Donald Trump has chosen entrepreneur Anji Sinha as his nominee for the role of United States Ambassador to Singapore.

Announcing this on his social media platform Truth Social, Trump said Anji is a "highly respected entrepreneur, with an incredible family".

"The United States’ relationship with Singapore is vital, and I have no doubt that Anji will strongly represent our Nation’s Interests, and put America First," Trump wrote.

Anji would potentially be filling the vacancy left by Ambassador Jonathan Kaplan, who served during former president Joe Biden's term.

Little information about Anji is available at the moment.

Ambassador confirmation depends on Senate

All nominations to become ambassadors on behalf of the U.S. to a foreign country are made by the U.S. president, according to the U.S Department of State.

However, it will be the Senate that confirms the nominees.

It requires a majority vote from the 100-member Senate, which has 53 Republican senators.

Once confirmed, each ambassador serves as the personal representative of the President, and the chief representative of the United States government to the country or organisation for which he or she is selected.

During his previous term, Trump's nominee for the post of ambassador, K T McFarland, withdrew from her candidacy after delays to her nomination.

These delays were largely due to concerns about her testimony to Congress over communications with Russia.
