The North Korean regime has condemned a proposal floated by U.S. President Donald Trump to "take over" and "own" the Gaza Strip, while also re-settling Palestinian refugees in neighbouring Egypt and Jordan, perhaps permanently.

According to South Korea news agency YonhapNorth Korea said national sovereignty cannot be subject to negotiations with the U.S., via a commentary piece published on state-owned news outlet, the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA).

While Trump was not directly named in the piece, it slammed the U.S. for "slaughter and robbery" regarding its plans for Gaza, and also called the U.S. a "ferocious robber" over Trump's other proposals to annex Greenland and the Panama Canal, Al Jazeera reported.

"The U.S. should awaken from its anachronistic daydream and stop at once the act of encroaching upon the dignity and sovereignty of other countries and nations," KCNA said, adding that the issue is not just limited to the Gaza Strip.

Trump wants to own Gaza Strip

Trump has doubled down on comments about the U.S. owning territory in the Gaza Strip, ostensibly to rebuild it, despite the White House attempting to walk back such statements.

Both Egypt and Jordan have resisted calls to accept more Palestinian refugees, citing security and financial concerns and also the right of return of Palestinians to their homes, Trump said he would consider cutting off aid to Egypt and Jordan if they did not comply.

Trump previously met the supreme leader of North Korea, Kim Jong Un, in Singapore during his first term as president, back in 2018.

While initial contact seemed friendly, their relations soured after the summit, with Kim insulting Trump as a "dotard" after Trump reserved the right to use military force against the regime in 2019.
